Federalisation - Timetable
13th December 2007 - Council to approve strategy and to authorise statutory consultation meetings in all schools on the List A, including Llanbedrog.
January to March 2008 - Statutory Consultation Meeting with the governors, parents and staff of each school to discuss the plan for their school. This is the only opportunity for the school to dissuade the Council officers. 33 meetings in 12 weeks (60 working days = less than 2 days to decide the fate of each school).
June 2008 - Officers should have analysed all responses from each school and drawn up the final schools closure list for the Scrutiny Committee.
July 2008 - Full council to approve the decision.
September 2008 - Officers to publish Statutory Warnings of intentions to close the schools on the list. A period of 2 months allowed for objections
December 2008 - Council sends all documents (for and against) to the Assembly Education Minister. She has 3 months in which to decide on an appeal - realistically, there are not enough staff to deal with more than 2 or 3 appeals at any given time. They must expect 20+.
March 2009 - Assembly Education Minister must decide on an appeal as a full term's notice is required so that the parents from the schools that are to close can find alternative schools for their children. Closures must, therefore, be announced by Easter 2009.
July 2009 (end of Summer Term) - Abersoch School will close for good. Llanbedrog School will close and lose its status as an independent school to become a site of a federal school which will include Mynytho and Sarn Bach schools. There will be a site manager on each side and one overall headmaster who will move between the 3 sites.
